Episode 6 - Business Records: "It's in the System...and the SYSTEM NEVER LIES."

At this point, you can say the oak tree had become legendary. Students whispered, "Are they doing the gossip of hearsay again?" as they passed by. Even professors pretended not to listen while walking slower than usual.

Maya, Jules, Trevor, and Lena gathered with their iced coffees, ready for the next chapter of Marcus and Talia saga.

Trevor looked like he had been waiting for them to finally gather.

"Okay," he said "so you know how Talia went to the clinic, right?'

Everyone nodded.

Trevor grinned. "Well... the clinic wrote EVERYTHING down."

Lena blinked. "Everything?"

Trevor nodded. "Everything. The nurse typed up notes like she was writing a novel. 'Patient reports dizziness.' 'Patient states argument with partner.' 'Patient appears distressed.' All of it."

Jules laughed. "The clinic keeps receipts."

Trevor leaned in. "And guess what? The police do too. They wrote a full incident report. Time of arrival. What Marcus said. What Talia said. What I said. Even the fact that I called."

Maya raised her eyebrows. "Oh, it gets better."

Trevor continued, warming up:

"And the apartment building? They have a maintenance log. Apparently, someone complained about the door slam. So, the building manager wrote: 'Resident reports loud disturbance. Possible damage to hallway wall."'

Lena gasped. "So, EVERYONE has records."

Jules shook his head. "Marcus and Talia caused a paperwork storm." 

Let us put the pieces together: 

Maya tapped her notebook again, ready to deliver the law-school magic.

"Guys... this is Business Records."

Everyone stared.

She explained:

"Businesses, clinics, police departments, apartment complexes — they all keep records. And the law trusts those records because they're made as part of regular work. Not for drama. Not for gossip. Just routine."

Trevor nodded. "The nurse wasn't trying to help a court case. She was doing her job." 

Maya smiled. "Exactly. Business records are considered reliable because they're made at the time of the event, by people whose job is to record things accurately." 

Jules pointed at Trevor.

"So, the clinic notes, the police report, the apartment log — they can all be used in court?"

Maya nodded. "Yes. As long as they were made in the regular course of business." 

Lena laughed. "Marcus and Talia didn't just make noise —they made paperwork."

Trevor raised his iced coffee like a judge's gavel. 

"Ladies and gentleman... the system is evidence."

Doctrine:

Business Records = Documents made as part of a business' regular routine, kept accurately and consistently.

No gossip.

Not storytelling.

Just official records doing their job. 

Just like the clinic notes, police report, and apartment maintenance log.
